Academic Year 2016-17 Resident Advisors

Each apartment community has a Resident Advisor (R.A.). Your RA will be there to assist you in developing cross-cultural awareness and build a sense of community. They will do this by organizing community meetings and holding different programs and activities throughout the quarter. Your RA will live in the apartment community with you, and will be there to help answer any questions you may have throughout the quarter.

RAs

Mariela Hernandez

Mariela Hernandez is a Resident Advisor at UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education, and is a fourth year double major in Criminology, Law and Society & Urban Studies this upcoming 2016-2017 academic year. She was born and raised in Los Angeles and loves to explore new places. Some of her favorite activities include playing softball, soccer, and attending baseball games. She enjoys cooking, going hiking and horseback riding. She loves to go out with friends to dance and try new foods. She is involved in the Latino Business Student Association which is an on campus club that focuses on building yourself professionally. She is very passionate about social justice and helping those in need. She’s very excited to be a Resident Advisor and looks forward to meeting her residents and help them enjoy their time at UC Irvine!

Mark Salenga

Mark was born and raised in Tustin, California which isn't too far from Irvine. His family is originally from the Philippines, so he grew up in a bilingual household. He is fascinated by languages, and likes to learn new words and phrases.

He is a 4th year student majoring in International Studies and minoring in Management. He enjoys rock climbing, reading, spending time outdoors, and learning about the world. Traveling is one of his passions and he has spent a great deal of time abroad because he loves experiencing new cultures, trying new foods and making new friends. He also enjoys story telling, and his favorite stories come from the memories he has made in other countries.

During summer 2015, he studied in Florence, Italy and ate gelato everyday. He also learned a bit of Italian and studied economics. Last spring break, he trekked through the jungles of Costa Rica and did research on sustainability and business. He is happy to answer any questions about that topic. This past summer 2016, he did an internship in Berlin, Germany and experienced what it's like to work in a professional, multicultural office where the main languages spoken were English and German. He understands what it feels like to be in a completely different country far away from the comforts of home, so he is a good resource.

Noah Vannarat

Noah Vannarat is one of the Resident Advisors for UCI Division of Continuing Education, and will be a third year Pharmaceutical Science major this upcoming 2016-2017 academic year. He plans to attend pharmacy school post-undergraduate and hopes to make an impending effect on the medical field. Besides his focus on academia, Noah stays active on campus by being involved in UCI’s student government (ASUCI) and staffing for summer orientation (SPOP). Some of his favorite activities include trying new types of food, hanging out with friends, listening to good music, and partaking in physical activities such as going to the ARC. Noah looks forward to meeting each and everyone one of you, so don’t be a stranger and say hello.

Tiffany Ruvalcaba

Tiffany Ruvalcaba is one of the Residential Advisors (RA) for UCI Division of Continuing Education for the 2016-2017 year, and is currently a third year at UCI majoring in English and minoring in Management. She has always had a niche for reading and writing, so when coming to UCI, she decided to follow that path in pursuit of one day becoming an English teacher for elementary students. When she is not at UCI enjoying herself, she enjoys reading, the outdoors, and adventures with friends and family, as well as amusement parks, the beach, and finding new places to hang out! As much as she loves going out and having fun, however, she also enjoys time indoors, whether it be staying in watching movies, binge watching on Netflix, or having some quiet time to study. She is extremely excited for the opportunity to get to know each of her residents; she is always around if a resident ever needs help or has any questions, so do not hesitate to ask.
